The hours I’ve worked as an employed student nurse at St. Paul’s Hospital contributes to global competency because it has allowed me to work with such a diverse population. In which, I’ve learned the importance of incorporating culture, values, and beliefs into patient care to be able to provide quality care. As well as ensuring that I am continously keeping and open mind and remain understnading of different situations I encounter because everyone has different persepctives and experiences. Being an ESN has given me the opportunity to approach different challenges and generate solutions through collaboration with a group of people. It has also allowed me to apply the skills that I’ve learned in my field school in Nepal to my current practice, such as non-verbal communication in situations with a language barrier or with individuals who are unable to verbally communicate. This opportunity has been a constant learning environment of what my future looks like as a nurse.
