The Nepal field school for TRU’s nursing program contributes to global competency because I had the opportunity to travel to Nepal and interact with both hospital staff and patients. It deepened my understanding of what healthcare can look like in other parts of the world. It also made me feel very grateful that I am lucky enough to be able to live in a country like Canada because there were many things that I observed and didn’t think would ever be a challenge I would encounter. I think that gave me valuable insight into further understanding about how culture is interconnected into the patient’s care and how providing care can look different in Nepal and Canada. At the end of the day, what remains the same is that the patient is the focus and priority to ensure they recieve quality and proper care.
